US Ends COVID-19 Emergency
US Unvaccinated Travel Ban remains in place at least until
US President Biden, today, signed into law H.J.Res. 7, which finally ends the COVID-19 emergency!
This is long overdue - as it should have been ended in June 2020 - after it was clear that this outbreak is essentially flu-like, and the countermeasures are severely impacting society negatively. This can be easily seen, by comparing the US to Sweden, which did implement almost no such public health countermeasures:
The public health measures in the US failed to prevent (or actually produced?!) a total tally of about 1.3M excess deaths from 2020 W01 until 2023 W03.
Adjusting for age and population size, we can see that the US ended up with an excess ASMR of +266/100k and Sweden with +45/100k. In relation to 2019, that’s a +17.1% pandemic excess mortality increase for the US and +4.4% for Sweden.
Meanwhile, the unvaccinated COVID-19 travel ban for international tourists and visa holders, remains in place for at least another month, until May 10, 2023:
